ICT Helpdesk Technician - ILRI/ICRAF

ILRI and ICRAF seek to recruit an ICT helpdesk Technician who will provide the first point of contact for ICT users. The position will be based on the World Agroforestry Centre’s Nairobi campus. The holder will however be expected to provide assistance to the ILRI campus when required.

ILRI works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing countries. Responsibilities

  • Manage the helpdesk functions. This includes logging all ICT service requests, assigning the correct priority level, category, type and the appropriate technician or service provider to carry out the request.
  • First Level Support: Diagnose and resolve incidents over the phone, through remote connection or by providing information.
  • Monitor and following-up on the status and resolution of outstanding service requests. Especially those that have taken unusually long and escalate any problems to the appropriate ICT staff.
  • Process and disseminate helpdesk reports and statistics for use in analysing common incidents and assessing performance of the ICT Department against agreed SLAs.
  • Maintain the log of equipment and other resources loaned to Staff.
  • Process the arrival of new staff and clearance of staff leaving the Centre, by following the set procedures. This will include to assigning or disabling accounts and access to resources, allocation of telephone and copying/printing PINs, IPASS and DISA accounts, updating of systems and databases, organising for data transfer or archival and providing appropriate information to the staff member.
  • Keep the databases that are used to manage the operations of the Department up to date. These include the ICT equipment inventory, Recharge Pro and Equitrac (ILRI) etc.
  • Inform the appropriate people whenever ICT services are unavailable and again when the service is restored, including when ICT staff are unavailable.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of students attached to the ICT Department.
  • Work with the Administrative assistant to organise the production of flyers, posters and other documents for the promotion and communication from the ICT Department.
  • Stand in for the ICT Administrative assistant whenever he/she is away.
  • Under the guidance of the ICT Customer Services manager, participate as required in ICT Customer services projects that are implemented by the ICT Customer Services team.

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology with at least one year relevant work experience.
Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) will be an advantage

Terms of appointment
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is for a 3 years’ contract period.

Senior Manager - Mpesa Product Development - Safaricom

Reporting to the Head of M-PESA Product Development, the position holder will be responsible for managing Local product road map and ensuring that all products within FS team meet exceptional customer experience standards. Key Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Logistics Officer (RLO), the Senior Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following tasks: 
 Assist the Regional Logistics Officer on providing oversight on all operational transport matters arising in the region and assist in the implementation of corporate standards, with special emphasis on Commodity Accounting Systems (CTS) 
 Assist CO in Bureau with commodity accounting and reporting on food and non-food items and ensure that internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained; 
 Oversee all CTS monitoring functions, Supervise the production of reports and other CTS information, Analyze data produced by CTS systems, identifying ways of improving efficiency; 
 Ensure that WFP policies, procedures, guidelines, business rules as well as best practice are adhered to
 Collect regional and statistical information related to needs in various locations. Maintain logistics cost data on various means of transport in the Region; 
 Follow up on projections of needs and call forward requirements. Liaise closely with Resource & Pipeline Focal points on food movements; 
 Assist in the training of staff on CTS, particularly ensuring that support staff are adequately trained, cross trained and identify any additional training needs to achieve high working standards; 
 Travel occasionally within the region when required to do so by the organization;

Qualifications and Experience 
Education: Diploma in Business Administration/Management, Engineering, Computer Science, Transport, 
or related field, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in a field related to WFP 
logistics/transport activities 

Experience: At least six years of practical commercial/professional experience in one or more of the 
transportation and ancillary sectors: port operations, shipping, clearing and forwarding, air operations, large 
scale road/rail transport and distribution management. At least one year at G6 level or equivalent. 2 

Knowledge: Training and/or experience using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint and other standard office software packages and systems. Experience utilizing computers, including word processing, 
spreadsheet and other software packages. Knowledge of UN administrative regulations and rules, and UN 
policies and procedures in the area of work.

Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
The Global Service Desk aligns learning strategies and coordinates delivery of all UNAIDS IT learning services, including user support at a first-level diagnosis and second-level support. The GSD promotes IT literacy, optimizing utilization of systems and enhancing the performance of users.

  • Reporting to the Service Desk Coordinator, the IT Assistant provides the delivery of UNAIDS learning services and User support , ensuring that all calls coming via telephone and email are attended to and responded within a specified time frame. 
  • The incumbent will provide technical assistance to the Global Service Desk for all user-related aspects of desktop hardware and software facilitating their ongoing maintenance, usage and enhancement. 
  • The IT Assistant will interact directly with the users, providing practical operational support and IT services that facilitate the work of all staff. Specifically, the Training and Support Assistant will:
  • Assist in delivering and organizing, group learning sessions, hands-on sessions, demo sessions, customization of learning activities to suit individual, workgroup and organizational learning needs.
  • Provide support to the, delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive and innovative, on-going IT training programme for UNAIDS staff in Geneva, the RSTs and country offices. 
  • Manage the Global Service Desk Hotline by recording all incoming calls, providing solutions to users and escalate calls to second level support, as needed. 
  • Provide technical and operational support to users for calls coming in via the Global Service Desk hotline or e-mail.
  • Ensure timely configuration and deployment of desktop/laptop equipment to staff, both in headquarters and in regional/country offices, providing first level support and escalating to proximity support and external vendors where applicable.
  • Provide support to Global Service Desk Coordinator to identify areas which need coaching and training with the aim to reduce helpdesk calls and enhance user self reliance.
  • Contribute to a positive attitude among staff toward technology utilization.
  • Perform all other related duties or assignments as assigned by the Chief, Field and Remote Support Division and participate in on-call rotation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: 
Completion of secondary school education complimented by formal training in computer science or related field, including training in the use of office systems. 

Desirable: 
University degree (Bachelors) in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field, ITIL Certification

Experience:
Functional / Technical Knowledge and Skills:
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, Windows 7, ERP systems, HelpDesk call tracking software, e-learning development tools, web software. Knowledge and skills in the development and delivery of IT training.

Essential: 
A minimum of five to seven years' experience in IT end-user support, user training or (preferably) a combination of both. In addition experience with supporting Microsoft operating systems and Office suite.

Desirable:
Experience supporting large-scale ERP systems, preferably in an international environment. Experience in supporting Microsoft Servers.
Languages:
Essential: 
Advanced knowledge of English.

Desirable: 
Good working knowledge of another UN official language.

Subscriber Data Management Planning - SAFARICOM

Reporting to the Principal Engineer - Subscriber Data Management Planning, the planning engineer will work in the area of SIM management, new generation mobile authentication services and Over-The-Air (OTA) platform. The responsibility of the Planning Engineer shall include but is not limited to the Evaluation of new and existing hardware, Planning & design for new solutions, Implementation and integration of new hardware/software, Project management, Optimization of existing systems and Internal Process Improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create KPI for new products/services, marketing proposals, product & services vendor evaluation process  - weighted evaluation for new hardware, features and services;
  • Analyze network for Common Subscriber DataBase (CSDB) on a weekly basis against the set KPIs;
  • Design network for CSDB for new elements are added;
  • Minimize network and service impact for any changes;
  • Schedule all the planned works;
  • Create and update handover system configuration documentation after software/hardware upgrade;
  • Configure data for new systems with vendor engineer;
  • Create/adopt necessary work instruction for existing systems;
  • Perform S.W.O.T Analysis of Projects;
  • Provide recommendation reports to Identify opportunities for improvement and optimization of existing services;
  • Create a tool/find out method to get statistical data from the system;
  • Analyze the effect of a new/improvement change before & after implementation;
  • Setup internal training;
  • Transfer knowledge to CSDB technicians;
  • Build internal and external relationships with key customers and suppliers to deliver continuous quality solutions to business.

Role requirements

  • University degree or equivalent  in one of the following: Telecommunications; Electronic Engineering; IT (Computing) – Operating systems, databases, system development, LAN design and configuration, TCP/IP or equivalent from recognized institution;
  • 3 years working as an engineer in a telecommunications environment (vendor or operator);
  • Experience of legacy GSM HLR will be an added advantage;
  • Experience of new generation HLR will be an added advantage;
  • Experience of NSN NT-HLR and/or One-NDS solutions will be an added advantage;
