Position Type: Part Time 17.5 Hours Per Week
Salary: KSHS. 60,148 Per month
The British High Commission Nairobi is looking to recruit a new Administrative Focal Point in its UN and Prosperity team. This multifaceted position will suit a motivated self starter who can demonstrate initiative and resilience, one who relishes the challenge of getting to grips with international environmental issues and works flexibly.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Monitoring developments at the UN, with a focus on UNEP and HABITAT; sending documents to UK Government departments and requesting their input; attending and reporting on meetings in the Deputy Permanent Representative’s (PR) absence, logistical support for conferences / meetings. (25%)
- Team support in particular for the Team Leader (organising receptions, maintaining contacts data base, correspondence, appointments, enquiries, leading on logistics for VIP visits handled by the team). Flexible provision of support to other events such as the Queen’s Birthday Party (25%)

Language requirements:
Fluent English required. Swahili useful but not essential.
Other skills/experience/qualifications:
- The applicant should be educated to a degree level or equivalent work experience.
- At least 1 year’s experience in office administration and report writing.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organisation skills.
- Ability to prioritise and execute multiple tasks to a high standard.
- Must be able to demonstrate their ability to use personal initiative to deliver results, meet tight deadlines and targets.
- Excellent skills in written and spoken English are also required, as the job will on occasions include speaking on behalf of the United Kingdom.
- Ability to work flexibly and under minimum supervision.

- The post offers to opportunity to gain experience operating in a busy High Commission, and specifically to develop UN expertise, skills of international negotiations, and an understanding of international environmental policy making. There will be various forms of training available including shadowing and formal training courses.
