Project Coordinator - Operations - MAERSK SEA LINE


Reporting the Kenya Cluster Operations Manager, the overall purpose of this role is the focus on cost reduction for operations, management of Operations projects as well as ensuring that Longstanding containers are kept at a minimum. The job entails much of negotiation with various vendors and ensuring that the contracted suppliers abide by the terms of contract.
Key responsibilities 
Longstanding Containers (Empty): 
  • Identify empty longstanding containers by monitoring stocks in all locations (Depots, Terminal & ICD)
  • Liaise with Equipment manager to evacuate all longstanding containers
  • Liaise with EMR in the handling of damaged & un-seaworthy containers to avoid keeping dead stock in our depots
  • Monitor Terminal to ensure we do not pay storage charges on Empty containers.
  • Weekly reporting of longstanding stock levels for the cluster & action plans.
  • Conduct quarterly container census to verify physical locations of all Maersk containers. Carry out system reconciliation with KENEQU.
  • Initiate claims for lost/unaccounted containers and close follow up with KENCLM & KENSECUR

Longstanding Containers (Full): 

  • Identify full longstanding containers by monitoring stocks in all locations (CFS, Terminal & ICD)
  • Pursue for return of container into active fleet by:
  • Working with Customer Service to have cargo owners clear their cargo and return the empty units to Maersk.
  • Working with Customs (KRA) towards stripping of the longstanding containers.
  • Working closely with customs to ensure cargo in Maersk containers is nominated for auctions actually auctioned
  • Working with Kenya Bureau of Standards and NEMA to ensure condemned cargo in Maersk containers is destroyed
  • Handle longstanding container cleanup of records
  • Audit equipment in Kenya, participate in equipment stock taking and system reconciliation.

Procurement: 

  • Coordinate tender process for Ops costs including best practices, tender terms and quantifying potential savings
  • Assess and shortlist vendors in liaison with OPS MNG
  • Negotiate in the companies’ best interest
  • Work with KENCLM to prepare contracts and SLAs for each vendor
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure contract terms and SLAs are abided by in the entire duration of the contract
  • Ensure all agreements are valid/current.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumable reefer spare parts
  • Quarterly stock take of all reefer and genset parts
  • Liaising with KENEMR & Reefer depot operator in the ordering of depleted stocks.
  • Ensuring stocks are delivered to depot from the country of origin.

 Projects 
Coordinate the implementation of Regional/Area/Global Operation projects in Kenya cluster
Assist in PEX project on RKEM update data quality improvement
Analyse cost recovery for operational costs

Key measures and targets

  • Reduction of longstandings overall, and also specifically port and depot longstandings
  • Successful completion of tendering process with contracts and SOPs in place each year.
  • Reduction of Operational cost.
  • RKEM Data quality improvement/perfection.
  • Equipment fraud prevention.
