Head, Transaction Banking, East Africa - STANDARD CHARTERED BANK

Job Description
To drive the East Africa Transaction Banking business in accordance with agreed objectives
Key Roles & Responsibilities
To articulate and implement plans focusing on: 
•Short-term financial results covering revenue, costs and net contribution. 
•Medium-term growth and direction through the creation of new core capabilities in support of strategic goals.         
•Clear positioning of defined products & services in the market. 
•To identify and translate market opportunities into new products and services in order to generate profitable business for the Bank. This includes the production of clear business cases defining product features and functionality, target market, P&L projections and any changes required to internal processes and service delivery. 
•Identify common behaviours and market trends across multiple countries, and drive migration of best practice. 
•Sponsor the Group initiatives, and ensure local action plans are in place to achieve the targeted results. 
•To plan and drive new product launches and sales to ensure that products meet or exceed planned revenue & volume targets and to develop strategies or tactics to gain greater throughput for our products and to grow customer liabilities and market share.  
•To maintain a high level of customer contact through client calls, seminars, product and concept research etc to ensure that buyer behaviour is well understood and modifications are made to products & services as appropriate. 
•To resource, lead, motivate and develop the country teams. 
•To identify opportunities for cross-selling and referral to other SCB sales lines through developing and maintaining a close understanding of customers’ businesses through close contact with the customers. 
•Drive engagement and partnership with Stakeholders- Heads of OCC, Segment Heads, Technology & Operations, Financial Markets, ALM within each of the countries to facilitate client focus 
•To establish clearly defined objectives for the team in terms of business accumulation and market penetration that are consistent & compatible with the Division’s / Bank’s strategic performance taking appropriate action where necessary. 
•Track product revenues against agreed budget and use this as a monitoring mechanism of products success in the market.
Qualifications & Skills
•University Degree with at least 8 years sales/sales management experience 
•Expert knowledge of trade, supply chain, cash management & securities services products available globally, their features, applications and potential improvements and to combine these with the ability to translate these into the local market 
•In-depth knowledge of the local market, customers and competitors 
•Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization both internally & externally 
•Ability to keep abreast on changes in the market, customer requirements, competitors responses and the banks ability to use information to identify new business opportunities 
•Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and organizational skills 
•Comprehensive knowledge of banking operations/SWIFT etc. 
•Leadership, management, organizational, and people management skills 
•Strong analytical skills 
•Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment 
Judgmenet & Complexity 
•A high degree of judgement ability to manage a sales team and handle complex business issues & relationships within defined policies and procedures 
•Ability to structure and deliver solutions which meet customer needs. 
•The role calls for an ability to make judgements on most appropriate business development strategy and approach for the different businesses 
•Worthwhile business or prospects with a view to minimizing risk for the bank 
•Maximizing profit margins
