Chauffeur/Clerk - US Embassy

The Force Protection Detachment (FPD) has an opening for the position of Chauffeur/Clerk. The closing date for the position is June 12, 2015.
Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:
  • Completion of high school is required.   
  • Five years progressive experience as a commercial driver is required.  Prior administrative support experience (one year or more) is also required.
  • Level IV English ability is required. Kiswahili Level III ability is also required. 
Other Criteria
  • Must have strong knowledge of various locations in Nairobi to include numerous private sector and other government office locations.  
  • Must be able to build network of local vendors, including auto dealerships.
  • Must have knowledge of basic auto mechanics, common safety practices with regard to vehicle operation and ability to ensure safety of passengers.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles equipped with either standard or automatic transmissions.
  • Must have defensive driving techniques.
  • Must have a valid Kenyan commercial driving license.  
Job Specification
BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
The incumbent will serve as chauffeur/clerk to the FP Detachment mission. S/he will serve as driver and support staff for the Force Protection Detachment (FPD). 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                  
Administrative support involves interaction with local vendors to make procurements as needed.  Will handle money, conduct transactions with banks, vendors, etc. and manage receipts, which require personal responsibility for any discrepancies.  Scheduling regular vehicle maintenance with an approved group of shops, and conduct follow up with shops to track status of work completion.  Evaluate costs and recommend purchase of parts, supplies and services.  Interact with GSO entities and motor pool staff based on needs of office.  30% of time  

Driving responsibilities will include transporting both persons and material as directed in both office own and NCIS/USN vehicles.  Maybe required to complete trip ticket summaries and vehicle usage reports.  Deliver and pick up official documents, invitation, packages, etc.  Incumbent will also be expected to serve in “on-call basis” and will conduct after-hours assignments.  Dress and conduct self in professional manner at all times while performing duties.  60% of time 

Insures that vehicle(s) under supervision are maintained in top operating condition. Report any irregularities or maintenance concerns to supervisors in a clear fashion.  Ensure that vehicles are kept clean both inside and out, and that fuel levels remain constant in order to complete all duties.  Conduct regular inspections of vehicles for tire wear, fluid levels, brake performance, etc.  Gather monthly mileage and vehicle condition in order to assist with the completion of reports.  10% of time
