Tax Accountant - EABL

Context/Scope:
EABL is the leading Drinks Company in Eastern Africa with a wide portfolio of products in various categories of beer, spirits, glass, barley, malt and other non-alcoholic drinks. EABL is quoted in all the three East African Stock exchanges and has operations across East Africa with a turnover of over KShs 75bn (Over KShs 44bn net revenue).
This role will work closely with the Tax Compliance Manager, people at different levels in the LBU’s as well as maintain a relationship with external institutions such as KRA, URA, local tax advisors and other government tax/treasury authorities across the region.
Dimensions:
a)Financial:
Together with the other Accountants in the Tax Team, The Tax Accountant will be responsible for statutory taxes for group companies in excess of KShs. 24 billion indirect and further KES 4 billion direct taxes per annum.
b)Market Complexity:
The role will cover most of the EABL Group Companies comprising, Kenya Breweries Ltd, Uganda Breweries Ltd, EABL Entity, UDV-Kenya Ltd, Central Glass Industries Ltd, East African Maltings Ltd, East African Maltings Uganda Ltd, International; Distillers Uganda Ltd among others.
The Group has operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and exports to adjacent African countries among others. This requires in-depth knowledge in tax legislation in all this market
c)Leadership Responsibilities:
The role entails ensuring compliance on both direct and indirect taxes and ensuring that the right control environment is maintained so as to minimise tax risks. This role reports to the Tax Compliance Manager.
Purpose of the role:
To ensure that there is timely and accurate coordination of all Group taxes and in liaison with various LBUs, and tax service providers.
Top 5 accountabilities:
•Manage tax compliance with various statutes.
•Liaise with other BSC sections and Business Units in computation of the correct taxes processing.
•Liaise with external parties to obtain information necessary for tax processing (Banks withholding tax certificates, Tax computations)
•To ensure that Tax payments are made at the appropriate time
•Review annual tax computations from the tax consultants, reconciling all tax and ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and correctness of entries.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
•1st degree in business related studies
•A qualified accountant
Experience:
•2 years experience in a large and reputable commercial organisation or a large (preferably Big 4) professional accounting/audit/tax firm
•Knowledge of tax and other statutory requirements and regulations as stipulated by laws of different countries.
•Knowledge of IFRS and International Accounting Standards on Taxation issues.
•Good working knowledge of SAP preferred.
•Proficiency in MS Office suite.
